Currently as per the certification matrix of OAC, one can only connect to Microsoft Azure SQL Database using Standard connection, means that the data source host is accessible via the public Internet.
Requesting to consider supporting OAC connection to Microsoft Azure SQL Database using Private connection.

https://docs.oracle.com/en/cloud/paas/analytics-cloud/acsds/microsoft-azure-sql-database.html

Business Justification

Customer is moving their complete database to Microsoft Azure on Private network. For this they need to be able to connect to OAC to perform the reporting.
Failure to connect may lead them to use another analytics based product apart from OAC”

    Enable with Private internet.

  • Certification is planned. However, you should be able to configure using the SQL Server connection type.

    @Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle Thanks for your response.

    Customer's Microsoft Azure SQL Database is hosted inside a Private network and is not accessible via the public internet. As per the certification document only Standard mode of connectivity is supported for Microsoft Azure SQl Database for SQL Server connection type.

    Since this connectivity is important for the Customer, as a test, Customer even configured PAC and tried the DV connection with SQL Server Connection Type for the Microsoft Azure SQL Database but even that did not work.

    Can you kindly give some insights on how is the connection being planned ie. via PAC , RDG, RPD etc..

  • @ashish.f.singh-Oracle Did the customer try with RDG?

    @Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle No they just tested on PAC. Should I request the Customer to try the connection with RDG once as well? Will the connection via RDG work with Microsoft Azure SQL Database hosted on private host?

    @Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle , When this feature is going to implement.

    My organization planned to move to Azure sql private connection from another databases.

    If oracle team is unable to provide this feature, we have to move to another reporting tool from OAC.

    @Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle , When this will implement?

  • @Naresh Gopavaram I would suggest testing through RDG. Use the SQL Server connection type and select Remote Data Connectivity option.

    @Alan Lee - Oracle-Oracle , Discussed with Oracle support on RDG, they took 1 month time and confirmed it is not possible. Can you please help to enable this feature.
