Documentation Help: Installing OAS 2024
Hey Folks!
Happy user of OBIEE since 2010.
Current Scenario. Windows on-prem sandbox server running OAS 6.4 standalone, (which was fresh installation). SPB current.
I'm trying to navigate the documentation to determine my next steps for moving to the latest OAS 2024 version. (7.0xx)
From what I gather - we should be able to do an in-place upgrade, re-using the existing rcu schema, weblogic home and oracle home.
weblogic version 12.2.1.4, with E:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_Home as the root -
I've gone through this
- and and end up going in circles. If anyone can help point me to a doc or kb article they've used as a reference.

You first need to decide if you want to perform an in-place upgrade, or you want to perform an out-of-place migration. In BOTH scenarios, you install a new ORACLE_HOME with the new binaries, so …
1. Install FMW 12.2.1.4 Infrastructure (includes Weblogic) in a new ORACLE_HOME
2. Install OAS 2024 binaries in that new ORACLE_HOME
3. If you want in-place upgrade, then you run the upgrade scripts from the new ORACLE_HOME to update the schemas and the domain. The summary is here:

Tim, one thing to pay attention at with in-place upgrades: if your domain is not located outside the ORACLE_HOME, do not delete the old ORACLE_HOME once you finished the upgrade. The default location of the domain is, sadly, inside the ORACLE_HOME, therefore if nobody changed that during the install of OAS 6.4, you will be facing this issue. Just a thing to pay attention at, because it's a common thing to clean up after an in-place upgrade by deleting the old binaries. You will need to keep the
user_projects
folder where it is.2

Thank you both. This document is helpful, as is the tip for the domain home. We've always just left the folders in their stock locations.

This part "

"
was what wasn't clear in the documentation. Thank you for that clarity. Upgrades aren't something we do often enough.

Thank you both - after downloading the latest versions from Oracle - nothing installed successfully. I've open an SR and will hope to get some further insights.
