As an Author/Consumer, I need to quickly move to "today" when picking dates in a Date Range Filter

Currently I have defaulted to relative time data for a date column. But when I have to pick a date, the Range is sitting in 2009(this is the oldest date that we have .The start field in the date range filter defaults to showing the first date in the data. The end field defaults to showing the last date in the data. These dates can sometimes be a long way away from the current date and it is cumbersome to navigate to today using the existing controls.
