@Avinash Krishnaram-Oracle

Thank you for much awaited feature.

When Personalization off, newly added state menu disappearing. In my opinion when Personalization off, only Last state should not available in manage state, and all saved states, Original state should be available. When workbook is loaded based on it should load on in Original state and if default state is defined , it should be load with default state.

Once Personalization is off, still all saved states are available but not loading filters correctly as per saved states, even after restore to "On" previously saved states are not working. Either all states should be cleared or grayed out when off but when on , it should work.

Currently, the Present settings for Personalization drives the experience for custom states and last state. Custom states are available only when this has been turned on by the author of the workbook.

Could you clarify this please because that is not the behavior i see - when present settings is off, user doest not see the Personalization option in the header bar.

@Avinash Krishnaram-Oracle There should be option for author to set not to have last state or author to publish default state and custom states to all consumers. We got lot of feedback by users for confusion of last state.

Please see the video. If we personalization off for two options, users will not see state menu. If we on filter or parameter is on, it is available. Please see video.

Another issue. Already raised a SR for it.

Manage state always shows Last state as default state even after we set default state. Workbook loads correctly by manage state doesn't show correctly. I have already raised SR for it. You can see it in video as well.

  • Last State is a state by itself and will always persist last entered filter values when default state is explicitly set as last state.

Custom State is a point in time reflection of the persisted filter values (snapshot in time) and we have no plans to support last state on a custom state ie any changes to filters after a custom state has been applied will not be persisted. The owner of the state has to explicitly modify the state defintion.

On your other note, when either parameter or filter personalization setting is ON,

    1. the behavior you are seeing / showing in the video seems like a bug to me. I will follow up. Can you share the SR number please?
    2. we plan to consolidate this into a single setting (it should never have been 2 settings to start with)

    4-0000430916 is the SR number.

    Consolidate is good option.

Unless consumer is not explicitly set default state, by default it is "last state". It is additional work. We can't ask Executives to define your default state for all workbooks.

Consider Author to publish the custom states for consumer. This is available in classic as well. We used to define standard custom states and publish to author. Example, our workbook is for different product, based on products filter, we predefine the custom states and publish.

Overall States menu is much awaited and useful but has room to improvement.

To make idea clear, created another idea ticket for custom states publish option.

    Hi,

Is there a way to have a workbook default to Original State, not Last State upon opening? We are experiencing our data actions are not working properly because the linked canvas is opening up with the 'last state' instead of original.

    Thanks!

  • @Moriah O'Kelley

Currently, the moment the user modifies the filter state we make the Last state as default. User can change the default to Original state from the Manage State dialog.

We will be addressing the Data Action experience on workbooks that have a custom or last state as default.

@Avinash Krishnaram-Oracle As per internal feedback received, I would prefer default is Original State or Custom state.

I believe that the best option would be to allow the user to choose the default state for each workbook. Thank you.
