The Sponsored Projects Financial Review dashboard gives research and finance teams a consolidated view of sponsored-project finances—from budgets and actual spending to outstanding commitments and available balances. It helps users quickly understand where projects stand financially, identify budget shortfalls, and focus attention on projects that need closer review.
Built using Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence subject areas, this reusable workbook brings project financial summaries, spending analysis, commitment details, and funding information into one place.
The workbook is intended for principal investigators, project managers, research administrators, sponsored-program staff, and finance teams.
Functional Area
- Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
Subject Areas
- PPM - Grants Award Funding
- PPM - Project Costs
- PPM - Project Commitments
Business Use Case
The workbook helps research and finance teams answer questions such as:
- How much budget remains after actual expenses and outstanding commitments?
- Which projects have spending or combined spending and commitments above budget?
- Which projects are approaching or have passed their finish date?
- Which expenditure categories account for the largest share of spending?
- How has spending changed over time?
- Which commitments have missing dates or need-by dates after project completion?
- Which awards require cost sharing?
- Which projects, awards, or funding sources need deeper review?
These indicators support financial review and prioritization. They do not forecast future overspending or confirm that cost-share obligations have been fulfilled.
Prerequisites
Before using the workbook, ensure that:
- The required PPM subject areas are available in your environment.
- Relevant project, award, cost, and commitment data is loaded.
- Users have appropriate access to the underlying data.

Interactive Features
The workbook supports moving from summary figures to supporting details:
- KPI detail views: Click Total Budget, Actual Spending, or Committed Amount on Overview to open the associated view.
- Chart filtering: Select a bar in enabled charts to filter related visuals on the same canvas.
- Project context: Carry the selected project into commitment details.
- Time drill-down: Explore fiscal-year spending at available lower time levels.
For example, select a project in the budget-shortfall chart to focus the Overview details, then open its commitments to investigate the obligations contributing to its financial position.
Default Date Filter
The Spending canvas includes the expression filter:
Fiscal Year = YEAR(CURRENT_DATE)
This uses the existing Fiscal Year field and updates automatically with the current calendar-year number.
- Disable or modify the expression before analyzing historical or multiple years.
- Confirm that your organization’s fiscal-year naming matches the year number returned by
YEAR(CURRENT_DATE). - The Spending detail popup follows the same current-year scope.
Overview, Commitments, and Funding are not restricted by this annual filter, preserving the broader project and award context.
Currency Scope
Financial views are configured for USD. When adapting the workbook to another currency, update the relevant currency filters and amount formatting together.
Amounts in different project currencies should not be combined into one financial total unless they use a common reporting-currency basis.
AI Assistant
AI Assistant is enabled in this workbook, allowing users to explore the underlying subject areas through natural-language questions.
To access it, open the workbook, select Auto Insights in the top toolbar, and choose Assistant.
Try questions such as:
- “Show project budget by project number.”
- “Show actual cost by expenditure category.”
Specify the project, period, and currency where relevant. To test the response, compare its selected fields, filters, and totals with the corresponding dashboard view. Dashboard filters and custom workbook calculations may not apply automatically.
Availability after importing the workbook depends on the destination environment’s AI configuration and user permissions.
