ODI 12c Certified with OBIEE 12c?

Hello,

Our BI environment contains the following: OBIEE 12.2.1.3, OBIA 7.9.6.4, Informatica 9.5.x.

We want to change Informatica to ODI. Is ODI 12c certified for our current configuration or would ODI 11g be recommended here? Will an upgrade of OBIA 11.1.1.10 be supported with ODI 12c instead?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks,

Kamran

  • Hi,

You mix lot of different products ...

OBIEE doesn't have and will never have a certification with ODI as the 2 tools don't share anything.

The key element which contains both OBIEE and ODI is OBIA.

OBIA so far is only ODI 11g, while for OBIEE you get 11g out of the fox and you can upgrade it to 12c.

You can't use ODI 12c with OBIA for now, you will have to wait a 12c release of OBIA which is probably coming at some point (do not ask when as the answer isn't known).

As far as I know the move from Informatica to ODI isn't anyway a simple "next, next, next" thing. And ODI 12c changed many things compared to 11g, so it will also probably not be a "next, next, next" process.

So if you want to move away of your Informatica staying on OBIA for now it will be ODI 11g. For OBIEE up to you to decide to stay on 11g or upgrade to 12c.

Thanks Gianni, I thought as much. Appreciate the confirmation.

The issue I'm having with the ODI 11g install is the following (Doc ID 2186589.1): https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?_afrLoop=312461103387031&parent=WIDGET_RECENTLY_VIEWED&sourceId=2…

Will this mean that ODI 11g will not be integrated with the Weblogic 12c?

Could not have said it better than Gianni. Wrong question.

Also: If you look at what Oracle itself has to say about OBIA 11.1.1.10:

And here is the certification matrix for OBIA 11.1.1.10:

OBIA is OBIA - a mixed up mush of products. All products on their own are totally independent and can work anyway you want.

I didn't checked the OBIA certification matrix which is the one answering that question. I believe OBIA comes with Weblogic 10.3.6 (or a number not too far) by default and that's the main weblogic. If you want to use OBIEE 12c you install it independently and it will have it's own weblogic 12c.

Do you have a special need to have weblogic 12c? Didn't check on the doc or certification matrix if an ODI 11g agent can be deployed on weblogic 12, but you anyway don't have the issue as OBIA will have the right weblogic installed for ODI.

That is basically the main issue with OBIA: The old WebLogic version.

No special need, just wanted everything in the 12c world, if possible. Looks like it'll be some time until Oracle releases OBIA 12c though.

No problem. Unfortunate that you're in this situation but that's always the thing with these intertwined things.
