Big Data - where?

I am trying to learn Big Data technologies - on a practical basis - I am looking for Oracle resources and forums and failing - anyone help please?
I am particularly interested in; -
1. Setting up feeds from web sources
2. Use of Big Data Discoverer to analyse the above
3. R, stand alone and what exists in OBIEE
4. Predictive capabilities of the tools
Any pointers generously rewarded.
Also, anyone have any experience with the VM for Big Data, is it worth investing time in?
Sorry to post here, didn't know where else??!

Of course the VM makes sense. They are always extremely good.
Oracle has tons of material - with R again the VMs for example especially the SampleApp 607: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/obiee-samples-167534.html
Finally the analytics team has a good youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/OracleBITechDemos

On the VM you need a lot of memory, not just for the install but once you start working through the exercises it also bloats considerably.
And yes, it is worth using.
On OBIEE you might want to see ->

And sorry to keep posting on this, but final note.
There are a lot of people now who call themselves 'data scientist'.
For me a 'data scientiest' has a number of years experience in data analysis, big or otherwise, data mining, use of statistical functions, hadoop, pig, hive etc, but most importantly significant experience in business to be able to use the tools with insight and for a clearly defined business benefit.
