The pivot is a valid point. But again it takes the approach ad absurdum. What would a char do inside the data grid of a pivot?

I understand your point and don't disagree. But, I have occasionally created "fake measures" as the OP called them, such as Max(Order Priority by Order#) in order to take advantage of the greater formatting flexibility that a pivot has over a table.

Oh of course, no problem there at all. But a measure doesn't have a char as an output. Not sure how you measure or aggregate "blue", "red", and "green" ;-)
