Hi everyone,

i have to create some OBIEE reports based on a custom calendar and i would like to know if it is possible to do and how.

Following my environment:

  • OBIEE 11g [11.1.1.9.0]
  • Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit
  • Oracle JDK 7 [1.7 Update 80]

Thanks in advance.

    Hello Ciro,

What exactly do you mean by "custom calendar"? A custom date dimension with workdays / weekends for example? A date dimension which oyu model in the RPD?

Also: Do you really mean "reports" as in "BI Publisher Reports" or do are you talking about "OBIEE analyses"?

Also also: How about joining us for iTOUG in January? https://itoug.it/eventi/tech-days-2020/itoug-tech-day-milano-2020/speakers-and-sessions/

    Hello Christian,

I'm talking about "OBIEE analyses" and a date dimension/table in the RPD (have this any sense for you? is it the best way?)

    Thanks,

    Ciro.

    Hi Ciro,

Yes, it definitely makes sense since this is the proper and correct way of doing things. Have a well-formed date dimension in the RPD which fits your needs (as I said liek workdays, holidays, your fiscal year etc).

When you model this in the RPD and define the time hierarchy centrally you will be able to use a consistent view of time across all your analyses.

    Hi Christian,

many thanks for your quick answer.

    Regards,

    Ciro.

  • Christian said everything already, but just to make it more explicit: your "custom calendar" can be an alternative hierarchy with a "normal calendar" you maybe already have. In the end calendars always tend to end at the same level (day most of the time). How those days are organized doesn't matter, OBIEE will be aware of your various date hierarchies and will behave based on the one you pick for the job.

And really hope to see you at https://itoug.it Tech Days next January, have a look at agendas and pick the best location for you
