Hi,

I want to update OBIEE 12.2.1.3 with the newest PSU, but in the Readme for OPatch 13.9.4.2.5 its advised to backup the complete ORACLE_HOME Directory. In my case this is about 8G.

Is this really necessary? For older version of Opatch it was sufficient to backup simply the OPatch directory itself.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Carsten

You're talking about the OBI BP readme or you're talking about the readme of OPatch? Patching opatch is different to patching OBI.

    Hi,

I'm talking about the OPatch 13.9.4.2.5 for EM 13.4 and WLS 12.2.1.3.0

You are right, forget OBIEE, first I need to update WLS. But anyway, the question stays the same. :)

Personally I didn't back up the home before patching opatch. Yes, it's recommended to back it up because you're fiddling with the entrails of the patching mechanism using java commands and you can't simply undo those if things fail.

t;dr: if you have any doubt then back up the HOME. The risk of messing up an opatch patch isn't that high but if it fails be ready to restore whatever snapshot you have of that environment :)
