OBIEE 12.2.1.3 Exporting BAR file using "export_service_instance.cmd", how to give password to BAR

Hi Gurus,

I want to deploy OBIEE 12.2.1.3 BAR file in OAS 5.9.

I am able to generate BAR file in OBIEE 12c using "export_service_instance.cmd ssi BARfilename.bar

Once i run this command from domain_home/bitools/bin, got "Enter RPD Password:", i entered a password. then it proceeded and completed generating BAR file.

Now, in OAS analytics URL, when i select console ---> snapshots ----> upload snapshot in Analytics DV interface, i get message as "snapshot upload failed during encryption" with Error code: SAC_BAR_10000 which means i entered incorrect password for BAR file while uploading BAR file into OAS.

Actually i did not set any password for BAR file while generating it in OBIEE 12c.

While uploading snapshot in OAS, as it forced me to enter some password (otherwise UPLOAD button won't activate in that dialogue box if i don't enter any password for BAR file), i gave the RPD Password which i chose while generating BAR in OBIEE 12c.

And i ended up with this error.

Can someone throw some light how to assign a password while generating a BAR file.

Figured out that we need to be on OBIEE 12.2.1.4 in order to be able to migrate to OAS (5.5 or 5.9)

So first upgrade your 12.2.1.3 to 12.2.1.4 , then generate BAR in 12.2.1.4. (here you can add a password to BAR which can't be done in 12.2.1.3)

Then import that BAR into OAS as a snapshot and you'll be set.

This is not true. we can upgrade from 12.2.1.3 as well.

Of course, you can even migrate from 11g, but the documentation only gives the process from 12.2.1.4 and for everything else it's a generic "If you want to export metadata from other 12c releases, use the corresponding command to create the export bundle.".

How about to update the doc to cover the migration process from other versions than 12.2.1.4 for all the users out there needing it?

Because I know how to do it, but I'm not going to post it in a forum as there are also many chances somebody will kil their environment by not fully knowing what's going on....

We "CAN" but it's not what the official doc states as Gianni states.

Pure command line upgrades are able to handle just about any upgrade from 11.1.1.3 to 12.2.1.4 and the scripts will definitely work (did it about 2 dozen times so far).
