Ability to set/declare presentation variable(s) from filters in Data Visualization

Introducing variables into DV is an active project, but it is also a complex one. There is a dedicated team working on it, but time lines are still not clear as they are still mostly focused on cleaning hurdles. While we can clearly say that this feature is planned, it will take some time for us to provide an ETA.

Do we have any timeline for implementation as this is planned.

Currently planned LA for later this year.

looking forward for this feature to be added in Oracle DV. ?

Hi - any update on a more specific date of when we can expect this capability? Thanks!

This would dramatically help since the data blending is so limited

Hello,
A co-worker just brought to my attention that there is a variable prompt but its only available through the use of an extension/plug-in. Can anyone elaborate on if this is the solution that was planned or is this an interim solution?
Thank you!

I have had pretty much zero success using Extensions/Plugins in DV. I told my team to stop using them because they are unreliable and very buggy. If Oracle plans to add presentation variables in DV, it will need to be built in functionality or it will be destined to fail, in my opinion.

Variable plugin in Analytics library is really very "bad toy" ( I think, it has been mentioned in discussion several times), so we all are eagerly waiting for real implementation of presentation variable handling (setting them in smart way - similarly as in "classical" part in dashboard prompts) in DV UI.

Just commenting to reinforce all of the above comments. Presentation variables are used throughout our existing dashboards. We won't be getting much use out of DV until PVs can be used in them.

@Gabby Rubin-Oracle Hi Gabby, when watching replays from latest (November) Global Analytics Leaders and Oracle Analytics Live I could not miss - when you have been talking about 2023 Feature Highlights (on slide with Oracle Analytics Cloud & Server Roadmap), that implementation of (for us) highly awaited feature - Variables/Parameters for workbooks - has been postponed from end of 2022 to H1 2023. Since we (and we, as customer, are not alone, assuming from thumbs up received for this Idea) are waiting for having it included (to be able to build BI outputs in DV with comparable complexity as in classical tools - Answers/Dashboards - unfortunately this is not possible due to current status) since mid of 2020 (when this Idea has been created), this delay are making us very sad. We were expecting to have it in next yearly release of OAS (in first Q of 2023), but it seems, that we will have to wait till OAS release in 2024....... Is there any slight chance, that this will be implemented in first release of OAC and be included in yearly OAS release for 2023 ? Our business users would be very unpleasantly surprised, as soon as we will tell them, that they will have to wait for another year (and more)......
Thanks and kind regards
Michal

TBD. Yes, Parameters will not be in the January update which is the basis for OAS, however, we are still looking at ways to include it into OAS. It is not lost on us that the delay puts the OAS inclusion at risk and we do not want OAS customers to wait another year for the capability. Unless there will be an additional delay, there is a good chance that we will manage to squeeze it in.
Note that Parameters will get more enhancements later in the year, those will still need to wait for the next OAS release.

@Gabby Rubin-Oracle Thanks for this positive answer , we will definitely appreciate this.

You mentioned in your last update, that parameters will not be in the January release of OAC. Would really appreciate it, if you could share when it is being postponed to?

Parameters will be GA with OAC March 2023 update.
Parameters will also be available on the annual OAS 2023 update.

Hello,
Is parameter finally available in DV? It is July 2024 and in previous comments it is mentoned that it will be available in OAC by March 2023.

As mentioned before, parameters have been available since OAC March 2023 update.

Indeed, Parameters have been in OAC for over a year. But be very specific about what you want to DO with parameters, as the functionality has been rolled out for about a year now. You can get a good sense of what you can do from the Oracle videos at
. I filtered using keyword Parameter.Good luck!
