+1 to "In your case as you want a descending sorting you will have to provide that kind of column in the data source (so running a ranking function with the required order by clause to force the order you want)." OR a more complex function to place the P##- rows in order and the MON-YYYY rows in order and specify a…

Agreed - cross database joins are a performance killer for OBIEE ... the BI Server is good, but it's going to fetch more rows than maybe needed ... network traffic up, amount of memory need in BI Server up and time to deliver results to screen up. Federate / integrate your databases where you need to ...

OBIEE 'has no' data ... not sure what you are asking

put your RPD and web catalog on a local development machine ... do what you plan - see what you get. If it isn't desirable, then don't do it on your real servers - dev, int, qa or production. If you are going to change structure in the presentation layer in RPD AND/OR in web catalog, you need to be sure of what you are…

Not the purpose nor intent of Write-Back ... OBIEE is not a data quality tool ...

+1 to both bits of great advice above!

On this episode of mythbusters.... * As BI is drastically moving from IT led to Business led there are few demands from the business for this.* BI has never been an IT led initiative when it is successful * User are now asking developer rights to make change to the dashboards directly as the cycle time of any change is too…

Parse out these items in the physical column mappings into their own logical columns ... benefits: * let the database (strongest worker) do this work and not the OBIS or OBIPS machines * build once - reuse many

The session variable, NQ_SESSION.CUST_NUMS, has no value definition ... is the init block firing to populate values?

"You don't like managing people" ... what about leading people? Leadership establishes your legacy -- your influence in another's career and development IS the ultimate award for your effort in gaining a body of knowledge -- whether that person is a client or a co-worker. Pursue being a leader ... PS: management and…

Been repeating myself for over a decade!

@Gianni Ceresa ... I'll have to check ... my VM USB drive might be 3.0, but I've had it 'so long' I'm thinking it's 2.0 -- might not be! (I no longer carry it having left the traveling sales engineer / dev manager gig! ) I don't recall ever having a performance issue -- not even with my OBIA (EBS sourced) demo VM.

The functionality is there to show lineage which IS context for data ... knowing lineage is crucial in more complicated logical hierarchy scenarios. The concept of 'reports' needs to go away when dealing with an online analytical tool - breadcrumbs and lineage are part of the user experience in these tool-sets as the user…

I've never yet run the VMs on a SSD ... mine run from a USB 2.0 3TB plugin drive --- and I can fire up 2-3 different instances of the VMs at a time ... your key will be RAM & CPU -- my smallest laptop to run VMs for demos is 32GB -- this machine is 5+ yrs old; works like a champ.

You might be missing a step ... https://www.rittmanmead.com/blog/2013/04/obiee-odi-and-hadoop-part-2-connecting-obiee-11-1-1-7-to-hadoop-data-sources/

Opaque view send an un-filtered query back to the database ... potential for a huge amount of data to be transferred only for the BI server to inefficiently find the one row you want. Reserved for POC type work only ... where you know how to restrict the amount of data coming across

Did the installation do something different that what it showed you on the summary screen (you can/could have saved that summary)? If so, I'd report that to Oracle.

" However, if there were changes that was made and results is not what their expecting, then it falls back to us to figure out what happened." You've pointed out the flaw in the design ... sometimes a tool cannot 'fix' a flawed process - the process needs redesigned.

Notice in your dialog your files have .###.zip (windows explorer is hiding the familiar extension so you aren't seeing the real issue ) ... these should just end with .### (no extra .zip) ... try removing the last file extension. SampleAppv506p.zip.001.zip rename to SampleAppv506p.zip.001
