Hi James- I believe what you're looking for is the TimestampAdd function under the Calendar/Date options in Data Flows. You should be able to specify things at the specific grain you want (day, month, etc.). Good luck! Tim Vlamis tvlamis@vlamis.com

Hi Alec- My initial impressions are that DVD 4.0 is fairly "hungry" compared with DVD 3. I've found with larger data sets that DVD 4.0 takes a fair amount of memory (my laptop has 16 gig of memory and it takes about half that to run DVD 4.0 with a "larger" data set of more than 100,000 records.) If you or anyone else has…

Hi Gabby. First, thank you so much for the data quality tiles. It's a great feature and much appreciated. It doesn't completely meet the needs of data profiling. When we were able to choose a fact for attributes, it enabled us to get a sense of the data set. Right now, we're only getting counts. We can see high-low and the…

This helps not only with organizing data sets, but also with development. There are times we collect early and intermediate objects in a development initiative into a "junk" folder for future deletion. Folder strategies are well-understood. While we know that everyone is being encouraged to use key word tags and names for…

First of all, I agree that it would be awesome to have more control over waterfall graphs and I fully support the ideas above. This reminded me of a "hack" that's been around for a long time. The idea is to use a stacked bar graph and to assign white (or the background color of the graph) for a piece that you want to not…

I agree whole-heartily with Charlie's comment. There are many of tables that are automatically created in Oracle database when certain functions from Oracle Machine Learning are run (Oracle Data Mining/OML4SQL). it would be great to see more auto-generated connections and visualizations in OAC. For example, when you run a…

Good comments cited in the earlier post on the future of filters in DV. I agree completely that this should be a lot easier than it is right now. Also wanted to mention that you can use expression filters in DV either in the filter bar or in a visualization. With expression filters you can write SQL, call session variables…

Agreed! The thing I hate the most is unpinning a filter and having it deleted from all canvases. It makes pinning a "last thing" rather than a "first thing" in development which makes no sense.

Good idea. Useful.

Warning: Rambling comment below. I think sparklines can add to visual presentations when they're well used. We do have the ability to create Trellis charts in DV, but not with mixed graph and display types. Excel has the ability to add mini sparkline graphs in tables (very nice feature). Single line, area, bar, and 2 color…

Hi Nicole- The easiest way to accomplish this is to create a custom calculation in My Calculations for that visualization (just drag in the column and give it a new name). Takes five seconds. You then use that new column name for the custom color assignment. It isn't unusual for us to sometimes replicate a column 2, 3, or…

This would be great.

Thanks, Gabby, for your comments. Making My Calcs easier to copy is a help. The part about bringing My Calcs into other projects is true. We had custom calculations as catalog objects in the Classic interface (shared within a Subject Area). I understand there would be challenges with the data sets versus subject areas. It…

I agree with both Jay and Michal. Jay's post is particularly clear What would be especially helpful is the ability to promote a set of custom calculations to a new data set and have the custom calculations as proper columns. This would enable us to capture the development effort without going through manual process of…

Agreed. What happened to the generic ODBC data connector? We used to have this in OAC. Was it deprecated and removed, or is there something that we need to do? Please advise.

Thanks, Gabby. Sorry I forgot this feature was already there. Here's how to an existing "classic answers analysis" as a DV project in OAC. Go to the catalog and navigate to the analysis. Click the hamburger menu (or "more" dropdown in the classic catalog) and select "explore as project". It'll open the subject and populate…

I agree with Michal and Raghu regarding integration of "Classic Analyses from Answers" and DV. I believe that Oracle is working on this as part of the plan moving forward. It's actually a bit confusing right now with the different capabilities and features with different kinds of data sources ("External Subject Areas"…

Hi Tony- Definitely agree with your sentiments and suggestions, especially regarding needing more capability for filters and variables in DV. I'll defer to your knowledge and others on the API/embedding piece. Just thought I'd point out to others where to look. I'm always amazed when this stuff actually works in production…

Agree that this is very much needed! If I'm not mistaken, didn't Oracle Enterprise Metadata Management have some of these features? Haven't looked at it in a while. I also remember it being ridiculously expensive.

I believe that you can do this now. Create a new connection to an "Oracle Application" and put in the credentials and connection information for connecting to your OBIEE or OAC instance. You should be able to connect to an analysis in the catalog. This would be similar to creating a connection from BI Mobile HD app back to…
