OCI A1 Flex Instance Boots but Network Access Lost, Unable to Recover

Summary:

The instance was functioning normally until I performed cleanup of unused desktop packages (Ubuntu Desktop/GNOME) to reclaim memory. After rebooting, the instance continues to boot successfully but has become inaccessible over the network.

I am using an Always Free ARM instance in the Hyderabad region.

Instance Details:

  • Shape: VM.Standard.A1.Flex
  • Region: ap-hyderabad-1
  • Lifecycle State: RUNNING

Current observations:

  • Instance reaches the Linux login prompt successfully through Serial Console.
  • UEFI firmware and boot process complete successfully.
  • Ubuntu login prompt is displayed on ttyAMA0.
  • Public IP remains assigned.
  • SSH (port 22) times out.
  • HTTP/HTTPS services also time out.
