Oddity with Custom Competencies Copy..

We input a custom competency that had 5 factors.. The character count on each factor is noted to max out at 500, so we crafted our factor copy accordingly and came in with the following character counts (from excel)

Factor 1 = 446

Factor 2 = 498

Factor 3 = 499

Factor 4 = 480

Factor 5 = 425

..however, when entered into the system, some are getting cut off and showing the below #s as character counts below them..

Factor 1 = 26

Factor 2 = -24

Factor 3 = -39

Factor 4 = -14

Factor 5 = 51

What have we done wrong here?.. Did Excel somehow for get to count spaces, and Taleo is?.. What are we missing?.. As words are getting cut off - and we have done quite nearly all we can to make the copy fit..
