Can application components be customized or added to?

Need to add another section to an application or be able to change the name

I would like to customize an application component to add a section for candidates to add training, specialized skills, and language proficiency.  However, not finding a good place to insert this.  I tried to re-purpose the Certificates and Licenses section, however, in the application the add feature still references "add certificates and licenses".  Any way to add custom sections to an application component and if not, re-labeling the names of existing sections?
