Basic Question- Personalization vs Customization

Hi All,

I’m seeing most people use this term interchangeably. In the consulting world especially when talking to clients some people only say personalization instead of customization.

Oracle themselves call it customization when changing anything on pages or reports.

Some points of view have been - hiding fields is personalization and changing baseline code is customization which never happens in the cloud so we only say personalization. Another one was - hiding fields is personalization but building custom reports is customization.

my opinion- everything is customization- changing the default, OOTB look and feel or functionality is customization- irrespective of it affecting business flow or not. Personalization is changing look and feel as an end user- for eg, clicking on the + icon on springboard to add or remove icons when logged as the end user.

Howdy, Stranger!
