How to create absence that reduces monthly pay in half/whole increments

We are looking into creating an absence plan for Unpaid days that will reduce a persons monthly salary.  We have created the Element and the Absence Plan and type but are not able to get reduction on regular pay.  The absence does transfer but the negative pay is not created.  Has anyone setup an absence plan that reduces a person's monthly pay?
