Default performance ratings when nothing added by employee/manager

Hi,

We're interested in defaulting our employees performance ratings to a specific rating if they leave their overall rating field blank and don't enter anything whatsoever.

I'm thinking that we may be able to do this by adding a calculation based on a fast formula into the performance document overall rating section in the template.

Firstly is anyone please able to clarify whether this is possible and if so what this formula might look like?
