Can responses be flagged on application?

Hi Everyone, 

As part of the application process, we want the candidate to let us know if they have been referred and provide the name of the person who referred them? Once the candidate's application is submitted, we want to the recruiter to see a flag on the candidate record (upon viewing applications OR once they look at the person's profile) to know they were referred by someone. 

The out of box functionality using the referral screens doesn't work for our high volume jobs that are manufacturing.
