Balances - Fetch Previous Payroll Balances on Rehire

Looking for suggestions of fetching the balances for a rehired employee from their previous terminated work relationships.

Hello,

When an employee is rehired, we'd like to access the historical / element balances that were held for terminated relationships or assignments in a payroll element fast formula. So far, I believe that there wouldn't any existing balance dimension that allows us to easily get this information.

Would you have any suggestions / ideas?

Our last resort would probably be using a value set to retrieve values, but that's something we'd like to avoid very much if possible.
