Is there a notification sent to employees when performance documents are created en mass?

Summary:

Employees did not receive notification when performance documents were created using the eligibility batch process. When individual documents are created there is a notification that goes to the employee, however no such email was delivered when the batch process was used to create documents based on eligibility. Since we are just going through implementation for Performance Management, I'm not sure if this is by design or we have missed a configuration step.
