pros and cons of non catalog request

Hello Everyone,

What are the pros and cons of having non catalog request and item-based requisition.

all our purchases are expense. we will implement inventory in near future. Considering this can we create expense items in the system? or is it recommended to create all expense purchase as non catalog request?
