How to display alternative names for geography elements in the address section during application?

How to display state abbreviations plus the full name of the state in the address field during job application?

Content (required):

As of now, the applicant can only search using the state abbreviation. If they try entering in the full name of the state, say New York, nothing will return as that state is under NY. How can this be changed to that is shows both NY and New York in the list?

The below set up from Manage Geographies shows that we have alternative names entered for the State:
