Null Condition Rules

We recently had issues trying to process corporate card transactions for a terminated employee. We finally resolved the issue, but it failed workflow approval. The SR results were that we needed null conditions on all attributes that could be null.. I asked for a Oracle document with examples of those type rules, but was told there were no examples. We have a rule setup for ER inactive employee approval, that has If "Task payload.Employee InActive is "Y" then..... ; would adding "and Expense Report Owner.Job Name is null" after the other If statement satisfy this fault?
