How to Auto close pending action items?

Hi Experts, we have a requirement to Auto close the pending action items within some specified days, below is the explanation, can you please let me how can we configure this?

Content (required):

we have a voluntary life plan and employees should provide 'proof of good health' to complete the enrollment or else it will suspend the plan for him and trigger an action item. so our requirement is to auto-deny and close the action item if employees dosen't submit the 'proof of good health' within 45 days.
