In a previous post, I showed you the basics of creating a dashboard (). In this post, I'll show you how I used dashboard prompts to filter the dashboard content.

Dashboard prompts allow you to filter columns on a dashboard based on your selection. But before we dig into these, let's get a few definitions out there.

There are two prompt types: named and inline.

  • Named prompts are stored in the catalog and created at the dashboard level. They can be applied to any dashboard or dashboard page that contains the columns used in the prompt. When used, they determine values for all matching columns on the dashboard. A
