Recruiter unable to find or create candidate profile, error candidate email already exits

Recruiters are unable to find the candidate in candidate search , however when we search the candidate with email it says 9 results but when we look at the profiles none of them have the same email ID.
When trying to create a new candidate profile - then system throws error saying email ID already exists.
