OCI: Server Failed to Boot Due to Low Value of vm.max_map_count

APPLIES TO:

Linux x86-64

GOAL:

Increase  kernel parameter value vm.max_map_count permanently.

SYMPTOMS

Instance unable to boot and fails with error,

 "max virtual memory areas vm.max_map_count [X] is too low, increase to at least [Y]"

SOLUTION:

Open a serial console connection and follow the steps in https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/Compute/References/serialconsole.htm -- Troubleshooting Instances Using Instance Console Connections

Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for Oracle Linux Instance Recovery to access the server.
