Default value not displayed in Create Request page

I have a custom field created that was created in application composer with a default fixed value. This field contains a custom instruction text and is not displayed when we add this to create request help desk page. However the same field shows this value in help desk details page without any issue. In both cases I have just added the same field to a custom layout and haven't done anything in particular to the details page. Is there any property that need to be set to make the default value appear in the create page?
