Authenticate Email Sign in and Phone number sign in feature

Summary:

This feature is released with 24C but we are not sure how it is supposed to work from what we've researched . We are using the default option where the candidate email address is used for identity verification and communication. All candidates using an email are authenticated using a 6-digit verification code. The candidate receives an email with a 6-digit code to confirm their job applications. Is this not the same thing ? Is this new feature supposed to replace that ? Is this new feature for former employees that are reapplying?
