Enrollment period for life events - Best practice and impacts

Hi,
Our client wants to have 7 day period for enrolment for all life events except hire such as add/drop coverage, marital status, assignment category, union change etc.
Is it best practices to leave the enrolment window for 7 days? what are the impacts of doing this? What are the other rules/conditions that i need to consider if i implement this change.
