How can I set up notification before the expiration for the task owner?

Hi all,
For our client we need to have a notification or reminder for the owner of the task. Our owner is an area of responsibility. How can we do that? Can anyone help me?
I tried to set a task duration different from the expiration date but it didn’t work.
