Item Class Assignments for CX Products

Hi

I need to associate the Item classes to Cx Products defined under Item Master Org. We do not have PDH enabled for use, we are only using Cx for now, so we use basic functionality of product definition in Cx Products and associate to Product groups etc.

Do we need item classes and categories for products defined in Cx Sales or it is not neccessary when there is no PDH enabled.
