Pass Variables to Custom Script

I have found other posts on how to pass filter values to a custom script, but does anyone know how to pass variables. 

Example - User enters a value into an ad-hoc variable created for the report. Normally, I would just put that variable as a column on the report and hide, but we need to export the report, so that adds an extra step and I would prefer it to be a clean piece of code.
