Like Operator in Report Filter not working properly

I am facing a similar issue to this post: https://cloudcustomerconnect.oracle.com/posts/871dfd2de0#170712 whereby I need my search filter to return all results CONTAINING the string I pass (so results can start with, contain or even end with the provided string) but am facing issues with the implementation of the filter (so I'm trying to replicate the %string% functionality). I tried the standard 'Like' operator but in order for it to return the correct results I have to enter my parameter as %string (which the management team doesn't want. They don't want to have to manually input '%' before the search string).
