Can we remove approval transaction immediately which are expired from bell icon?

We have setup approval rule with escalations, When the approver doesn't take any action the transaction expiries. However this would still show in bell icon. There are lot of unwanted expiry notifications lies in bell icon which creates lot of confusion in identifying valid approval transaction among those.

Is there a way to remove those expiry notification from approvers bell icon?
