can we update the normal activity to multi segmented activity, while adding additional hours

Scenario:

I have a normal activity with 3 hours of duration.

I updated it to 10 hours as per tech requested.

My business rule states that, whenever the activity duration exceeds 7 hours, it should convert into multi segmented activity.

Is it possible to change the normal activity type to segmented activity type, once the activity is created, if not please share the approach how to handle this scenario.
