Auto-populate DFF from account segment?

Oracle appears to have limited up to account segment 7 to be available in workflow rule creation. However, we found the need to use our segment 10 in the rule as we repurposed the future segment. Since we cannot use Segment 10 in the rule, we were looking to populate a dff and then use that in the rule. We need to be able to auto-populate this DFF based on what is in the account segment. Is this possible? If so can you please provide steps?
