How do I set up the Master and Child Orgs for Global Work Definitions for Maintenance?

Summary:

I am trying to implement the new Global Work Definition functionality. I have opted in (found it in the Manufacturing opt ins, not Maintenance) to the new feature. I have also verified my Role has the new Privileges. The part I'm struggling with is the verbiage:

These are defined in a maintenance-enabled master organization and replicated to selected child maintenance-enabled organizations. 

What is a master organization? My Item Master Organization can't be maintenance enabled and Organizational Relationships don't have master/child functionality. I am currently not able to implement this functionality
