Tip Of the Week : Tables Accessed and Updated Report – An Easy Way to Find Out Which Records are Acc
We are starting a new initiative to talk about some of the little known but practically useful features that have been delivered by Oracle | PeopleSoft . We plan to post one new discussion every week on Friday. We are starting this series with a post on the Table usage SQR process. Please read through the post below for more information.
If you would like us to talk about specific delivered features , please add a comment on this post and we will endeavor to meet your expectations! - Expenses & Resource Management Communities Moderators.
Troubleshooting processes and application has always been a challenging job which turns more complex when it comes to applications with multiple procedural calls and nested looping. Engineers always look for the actions performed such as insert/update/delete on the various tables involved in the processing. Keeping a note and track of all this becomes tedious.
PeopleSoft has delivered a utility “Tables Accessed and Updated Report” which gives you a list of all the records and actions performed on them during a program execution. It is a SQR report designed to understand the behavior of PeopleSoft applications such as App Engines, SQRs, COBOLs and Queries with the underlying transaction records.
It basically performs two actions:
- Reports the record names referenced by the SQL statements within the applications.
- Reports the way in which those records were accessed (for example, Select, Update, or Delete.)
The output information can be further used to:
- Understand a program's functionality and how it manages your data.
- Assess the impact of proposed customizations.
- Determine the underlying database privileges require to execute a program.
- Identify every batch process that uses or alters a specific record.
This report can be found on the following navigation:
- Set Up Financials/Supply Chain >> Common Definitions >> Tables Accessed and Updated
- The report page is nothing but a Run Control page where a user can provide inputs for analysis. One can select the application type and search for the available programs. Once selected, all these are added to selected list which goes as an input for analysis to the report.
- A scenario where all the App Engines for a particular product, let’s say AP, are to be analyzed, then instead of selecting all the AP processes, user can just enter AP in application name field and run the report. It will give the output for all AE starting with AP. That is just another way of using this tool.
Benefits:
- A big time saver
- No manual track and note
- Handy PDF outputs
Restrictions and limitations:
- The SQR allows the use of dynamic substitution tables.
Since the Tables Accessed and Updated report can't know the full set of tables that might be substituted, it reports the condition when it encounters this kind of SQR.
- The SQR incorporates the construction of SQL clauses within string variables that can then be used in SQL statements and resolved by the SQR at runtime.
The Tables Accessed and Updated report can't detect this style of coding, however there aren't many table references found within these kinds of clauses.
- The SQR references libraries through syntax that includes (#INCLUDE) SQC files.
If an included module is a very generic library with a large number of general-purpose routines in it, the analysis may overstate the number of tables referenced.
- The COBOL programs reference libraries through syntax that calls (CALL ... USING) routines in other modules.
If the module called is a very generic library with a large number of general-purpose routines in it, the analysis may overstate the number of tables referenced.
- The Application Engine program contains the meta-SQL phrase %Execute() with platform-specific procedural logic (such as Microsoft SQL Server "Transact-SQL" or Oracle "SQL-Plus").
The Tables Accessed and Updated report reports such usage as unanalyzed.
- The Application Engine program uses a PeopleCode step.
The Tables Accessed and Updated reports any use of PeopleCode as unanalyzed, whether or not it contains SQL statements.
- The Application Engine program contains forms of meta-SQL that contains dynamic object references.
Since the Tables Accessed and Updated report can't know the full set of tables that might be substituted, it reports the condition when it encounters this kind of meta-SQL.
Additional information on how to use it can be found in the screenshot document attached.
Re: WW Audit log files
Hello! My name is Suzanne and I support World Writers. Thank you for posting your question.
Knowledge document WS: WW: Version List, Cover Page, Security FAQs (Doc ID 627481.1) includes the following:
Question 4: Is there any way to see when a version was last executed?
Answer 4: On the version list screen. F2 toggles between the Chg Date and the last Exc Date. This information is stored in F82100.
Question 5: You submitted a version but when you press F2, the last Exc Date did not change.
Answer 5: The act of submitting a version does not update the last Exc Date. The job must go through the JOBQ.
Question 12: How to identify active versions so that you can delete the versions that are not being used.
Answer 12:
- Use the Report Manager Tool to review DREAM Writer, FASTR, STAR, and World Writer report versions. Choose to Keep, Archive or Delete versions from an easy-to-use Workbench. Refer to Document 652537.1 for complete information.
- You can also use the date fields in F82100 - Last Change Date and Last Executed Date - to determine which versions are being used.
- Create a World Writer report over F82100 and sort by the user field. Give each user their list of reports and let them decide which ones they need. Once you have a list of versions to be deleted:
- Create a temporary library with empty WW files. Use the CRTDUPOBJ command. For OBJ enter F82*, enter the production data library in the FROMLIB field and the temporary library in TOLIB. Leave Duplicate Data *NO. Example: CRTDUPOBJ OBJ(F82*) FROMLIB(PRDDTA) OBJTYPE(*FILE) TOLIB(WWTEMP)
- Copy the versions to be deleted to the temp library. Menu G8231 selection 2 - Copy WW Versions.
- Delete the versions in production. If someone needs a deleted version, you can copy it back to production from the temporary library.

Re: webadi has no oracle upload
Hi,
You may check the below steps:
The issue occurs if the user does not have permission in the desktop to create temporal directories to inject the ribbon in the document.
There are 2 ways to address the issue.
OPTION - I
A) If you are using R12.2, apply the Patch 35538202:R12.BNE.C that provides the latest WebADI_Template.xlsm file version 120.0.12020000.102 (This version doesn’t require a BNETEMP variable setup)
B) Check also the below steps:
1. Go to System Administrator Responsibility --> Profile --> System.
2. Query the Profile BNE: Enable OOXML Standard and set it to Y(Yes) at SITE level
3. Recreate a New Web ADI Excel Template
4. Retest the issue.
C) Retest the issue by creating a new Web ADI Excel template to resolve the issue.
OPTION – II
A. Set a system Environment Variable to point to BNETemp directory.
This can be done as follows:
1.1. Create a New Folder called "BNE" under your local C:/ drive. (Example: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\)
1.2. Navigate on the desktop/laptop: This PC > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables
1.3. Edit the "BNETEMP" variable if it already exists or add a new variable under the user section with variable name = bnetemp and variable value = the directory path from step#1.1 (Example: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\bne)
B) Retest the issue by creating a new Web ADI Excel template to resolve the issue.

Re: How to Manage Cash Plan in Oracle E-Business Suite
Hi,
In case of cash basis accounting, payments are directly interfaced to Projects and then they can be directly queried from expenditure inquiry using payment number.
But in case of accrual based accounting, only if there is any discount on payment and it has got interfaced to Projects, then only payment number field can be used to query directly in expenditure inquiry.
A major accounting method that recognizes revenues and expenses at the time physical cash is actually received or paid out.
This contrasts to the other major accounting method, accrual accounting, which requires income to be recognized in a company's books at the time the revenue is earned (but not necessarily received)
and records expenses when liabilities are incurred (but not necessarily paid for).
When transactions are recorded on a cash basis, they affect a company's books only once a completed exchange of value has occurred; therefore,
cash basis accounting is less accurate than accrual accounting in the short term.
On the contrary, Accrual Accounting is:
An accounting method that measures the performance and position of a company by recognizing economic events regardless of when cash transactions occur.
The general idea is that economic events are recognized by matching revenues to expenses (the matching principle) at the time in which the transaction occurs rather than when payment is made (or received).
This method allows the current cash inflows/outflows to be combined with future expected cash inflows/outflows to give a more accurate picture of a company's current financial condition.
When you define a ledger, you can enable an option for the ledger to use cash basis accounting. Otherwise, the ledger uses accrual basis accounting.
You cannot define both for a Ledger. Please review the following note:
Project Costing With Cash Basis Accounting in Release 12 (Doc ID 420988.1)
You can check also the following note: Advanced Resolution Center : Overview of Procure to Pay Integration With Project (Doc ID 2889264.2).
