Announcing the release of NEW Oracle Enterprise Manager App for Grafana Version 4.0.0
What’s new!
This new version 4.0.0 of the app introduces 2 brand new dashboards (Exadata Capacity Planning Report, Exadata Cloud Capacity Planning Report) and several new features, such as:
- Support Grafana alerting on the data queried from OEM repository or a target
- New UI for query template variables
- Define custom variables using data from the OEM repository
- Dynamically fetch data from different tables based on user selected time range
- Automatically change the time range from other variables
- Conditional expressions in queries for dynamic data display
New Exadata Dashboards: There are two new Exadata Dashboards included in this new version 4.0 that contain information similar to the existing OEM Exadata Capacity Planning Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP) reports. These dashboards give a detailed view of Storage Capacity Planning, CPU and Memory Capacity Planning, I/O Capacity Planning and Network Capacity Planning.

2. Exadata Cloud Capacity Planning Dashboard
We have a new blog coming up soon for these 2 new dashboards.
New features: In addition to the 2 new dashboards, following are some of the new features included in this new v4.
· Support for Alerting: The EM App for Grafana now supports the built-in Grafana alerting capabilities. These alert rules can be configured using values from a metric or a custom SQL query, similar to the queries from a dashboard panel.
· New Query Template Variables: In v3, only 3 query template variables are supported, target type, target name and named credential. Starting with v4, three additional template variables have been added: Repository Query, Time Picker and Time Difference.
- Repository Query: Allows dashboard designers to specify a custom SQL query that will get executed against their EM repository database for populating a drop-down. This provides dashboard designers with the flexibility to create arbitrary template variables according to their specific visualization needs.
- Time Picker: Allows the time range of the dashboard to be dynamically changed based on the value of another template variable. This can be useful when dashboard designers want to present dashboard viewers with a static list of time ranges and use this variable to dynamically switch between the viewer selected time range.
- Time Difference: New template query variable whose value evaluates to the time difference of the user selected time range, in the configured unit of time (e.g. 30 seconds, 6 hours, 1 day etc.). This can be useful to fetch data for display from different tables based on the duration of the time range.
· UI for query template variables: Previously implemented method of defining query template variable through a raw JSON string with a specific schema has now been replaced with a UI. This allows dashboard designers to create query variables quickly, with the expected options, without having to worry about the formatting and schema of the JSON string.
· Conditional Expressions: Each query can now optionally include conditional expressions which is simply a comparison between two values (statically defined or dynamically evaluated from a template variable). The query will only be executed if this defined expression evaluates to true. Multiple such comparison expressions can be combined for complex conditional query execution.
