Simulating "flashback standby" without DG

Hi,

I look after a dev database which is refreshed daily using a data pump export/import.  This isn't ideal for a number of reasons (e.g. stats, baselines & other stuff isn't copied), so I'm looking at alternatives.

We are DG licensed so one way to improve upon what we have now would be to use flashback standby.  However, due to a series of circumstances the primary DB server can't initiate connections to the dev server which (as I understand it) rules out the use of dataguard,. though the dev server can connect to the primary.

I am considering this process:
