Item LOV to dislay item code+description

Hello

Currenlty the item LOV on Sales Order displays item code and description but we cannot search by item description.

Can anyone tell me if there is preference etc to be set/changed so that we may be able to look for items by description as Sales representetives do not know the codes, they know only the item description
