Display hierarchy objects in OAC Data Viz Data Panel
Organization Name
Perficient
Description
Currently in the OAC Data Viz data panel there is no hierarchy object that is displayed when a hierarchy has been set up either in the thin client modeller or the RPD. In the OAC data panel you will see all the column names for the levels of the hierarchy but you won't know that they are related in a hierarchical manner. For example, if a Product Hierarchy was set up in the thin client modeller with the following three levels: Brand, Product Category and Product Name you would see these in the OAC Data Panel but you would not know they form a hierarchy. OBIEE has a hierarchy symbol that you can click on that will expand to show you the levels in the hierarchy. Is it possible to bring that 'hierarchy object' into the OAC Data Viz data panel?
It should be noted that once you create the visualization in OAC Data Viz, you can drill down and up the hierarchy that was established in the thin client modeller or the RPD. But that is not what this idea is asking for. This idea is asking to display a hierarchy object in the OAC Data Viz data panel so it is obvious that a hierarchy exists and so that it is easy to see what are the levels of the hierarchy.
Use Case and Business Need
In the vast majority of customer situations where OAC Data Viz is being used for analysis, there are hierarchies involved. For users that are using the data panel for data exploration or ad hoc analysis or just creating canvases for other people, it is much easier to understand the data and to leverage hierarchical drill down for analysis if it is evident that hierarchies exist and can be used.
More details
The lack of any indication that a hierarchy exists in the OAC data viz data panel makes it harder for business analysts to efficiently analyze the data and to take advantage of the ease of use of OAC.
