Description

Hi Experts,

I hope that most of you who have worked on an On-Premise system must be well versed with using SQL Developer to run/execute a query and get raw data.

But in Oracle HCM Cloud or rather Oracle ERP Cloud enviornment one had to use Oracle BI Data Model or OTBI SQL Option (now not supported from 19D)

So wondering won't it would be great to be able to connect to Oracle ERP Cloud database using SQL Developer. (could be a nice enhancement in product)

I do heard about some paid tools developed by some organization but still not sure will individuals / orgs pay for the tool on a per user per month

(Details about tools can be found here: https://oraclecloudtools.com/sql-connect/ )

I personally feel that the tool is good but only if free , else am happy to take the pain of creating Data Model to run my SQL).

What do you guys think, having a SQL developer like interface to execute queries in cloud helps and if it does shall it be paid or free (embedded within project or additional bolt on).

Would love to hear both the pros and cons for it.

Do let-me know your views?

A tool like this will increase developer productivity.
Current way of working is to export all the data to another database and from there to use the SQL tooling to make custom BI reports.

This would help us create queries way more easily and without errors. Current options are only to write in Notepad with no system help / validation whatsover.

Would prefer not only HCM but all of Oracle's suites to be added.

Agreed, there are paid tools available however it would be nice to have a built-in Oracle solution

I would love to see this. Development using BI Publisher is simply painful

Thanks for the idea and your feedback!  Product development is evaluating this request.  SQL Connect https://oraclecloudtools.com/sql-connect/ is not an Oracle-certified tool.  We don't advise customers using this tool.

I totally agree that the BI Publisher and Data Model current functionality is not very efficient.
I'd love to be able to use SQL Developer connected to the database (even just to read)

    Thanks!

I know that for some big customers they do arrange a Read Only SQL utility (something which requires security authentication and GoldenGate setups....).

Also, most probably Oracle Support team members has access to query directly.

This functionality would be extremeley useful for both us and our clients. Current development and issue resolution SQL requirements result in inefficiencies.

current development functionality is inadequate, and resolving issues for clients is inefficient

Have been using SQLConnect (www.oraclecloudtools.com/downloads) for quite some time now. It was recommended by a friend. It saves a lot of time when it comes to running Adhoc query and doing data analysis across various pods. I was told it used standard Oracle BI APIs.

    Hi all,

I think that granting access in read-only from tool like SQL Developer would really be helpful!

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

This would be life saving feature and would save a lot of effort during the build phase.

    Thanks,

    Hi Everyone,

Yes, the current data model for the BI publisher is not efficient at all and that would be great if Oracle offers this option of connecting to HCM through SQL developer.

    Thanks,

This functionality would enable issue resolution, and would reduce the need to raise SR's with MOS.

  • Being able to use tools like "Oracle SQL Developer" or "Toad for Oracle" in read-only mode with the Cloud would be a very good improvement. Not only for HCM Cloud, but also for ERP Cloud. Using the current functionality (BI Publisher and Data Model) to create SQL queries is painful and not efficient.

I am totally agree with the fact than creating Data Model and have to create report to export the result of the script to Excel is not an efficient way.

We lose a lot of time each time we have to analyse some transaction in error or need specific informations.
