Description

BI Publisher 12c or as part of OBIEE 12c and Oracle Analytics.

Move the Report Catalog into a Relational Database type structure.

Today is quite hard to search through the Report Catalog, specially through Data Models.

If the current Data Model or Report Templates can be stored in a Database table(s) it would make it easier to search and perform Impact Analysis in event o changes in source systems.

It is quite hard to navigate and explore the contents of the catalog in bulk.

The current Data Model is stored in an XML type file. Why not store that data in a database table with an XMLTYPE data type?

 

Use Case and Business Need

Scenario: A company builds a lot of Self Service BI Publisher Reports with experienced users creating data models and templates

If the company does not have a Report Catalog it may be difficult to check where an object is used in any Report.

If the Report Data Model is available for search it will make it easier to search through all objects within the data model.

Yes, agree that we need a better way to perform impact analysis across Oracle Analytics objects, not just for BI Publisher reports/data models.
