Rework the "analyze" feature so users can play with data in Data Viz rather than Answers
Organization Name
HSBC Plc
Description
Consider this example: A user wants to drill-down on a summary HR report to see a detailed list of 2000 employees. With the current functionality available, it is impossible to build analyses that cater for all the different ways the users want to drill down and view the underlying data.
As a solution, we propose that the "Analyze" option that appears underneath an analysis is modified to use Data Viz instead of Answers. Here is how it would work:
1) User drills-down to a target analysis (e.g. a table with 20 columns and 2000 rows)
2) User clicks "analyze" option
3) The data from the analysis is materialized in some way e.g. in OBI cache or stored a temporary database table
4) A new Data Set in Data Viz is generated automatically from the materialized results
5) A new project is opened in Data Viz with the new Data Set as the source
6) The user can then perform data discovery / exploration on the data set
Use Case and Business Need
This suggestion is an alternative to idea 3160F4C636 (Enhanced drag & drop / slice & dice / pivoting within BI Dashboards).
It would provide users with a seamless way to switch from "governed" to "self-service" analytics and reduce the likelihood that users would want to export data to excel.
The current Analyze option is not fit for purpose as most users find Answers to cumbersome/complex and the feature doesn't work too well when you have complex reports involving presentation variables etc.

Another advantage of this would be that we can limit the number of users that need to be given BIAuthor in OBIEE.
