100 % agree with Tony. Oracle Analytics dev team should concentrate only on imrpoving Data Visualization part, but also maintain and extend functonality/usablity of "good old" BI Dashboards/Answers. All points written by Tony are completelly relevant .

Hi Matt, glad to see your comments on these items. I would like to challenge or ask further clarification for some of your points, if possible. My comments in blue

    • Auto-hiding dashboard prompts - We are adding more options to enhance filters, stay tuned. This is very welcomed and necessary, dropdown, slices and lists are good examples. We use DV embedded in Answers and would make our life way easier if we have more options for slicing and dicing the data in only one screen. The way we do now is via other visuals and it sometimes not very efficient.
    • reduce the amount of whitespace - See my screenshot I think we can get close to what you have in the screenshot. I need to agree with Anthony there is too much white space across the visuals and I attach an example. The recently added functionality of adding background color helped but still can be improved.
    • lose the expand/collapse options (clunky boxes that appear around every visual) - No such thing in projects. Done
    • give more layout options (as the current section/pages approach is far too rigid) - Done we have flexible layouts and the content is fully responsive.
    • deliver more exciting HTML5 visuals/animations - Tons of animation, but we are careful to not do too much as to annoy a user but our visuals are modern and you can even create your own using technologies like D3.
    • enhance the mobile experience - Done, Full mobile responsive and adaptive! When was the last update on the Mobile App? I see DV content being responsive/adaptive, but I can't see how to control or order that, so perhaps adding more flexibility there and a better look and feel for the app would help.
    • reduce the amount of clutter in charts, titles etc - Just added full control over this including a bunch of formatting and background options.
    • dynamic resizing of content (not just fixed to x pixels y pixels) - Done - see above comments on layouts.
    • Reduce the number of screens to navigate when building analyses and/or dashboards - How does 1 sound? Done How can you create a dashboard in DV using different projects on one screen? I still didn't find that possibility.
    • Increase the number of graphs types - especially ones that can show KPI style metrics (e.g. with target values etc) - We have a bunch and are adding more. Plus you can build your own or get free ones from our library of 3rd party options. https://www.oracle.com/business-analytics/data-visualization/library-overview.html I also cannot see any standard visual where you can have a comparison between actual values against targets, like in the cards from other Oracle tools. The 3rd party options are scarce and have been not so reliable. They are normally of lower quality visuals when compared with the standards of the tool.

The way we do now is via other visuals and it sometimes not very efficient.  - Yes we are looking at and working on advancements in this area for data visualization projects, cannot comment on specifics at this time.  Just know that we get that there is a gap.
    • I need to agree with Anthony there is too much white space across the visuals and I attach an example. The recently added functionality of adding background color helped but still can be improved. - Agree much improvement to be had.   Making progress and chipping away.
    • When was the last update on the Mobile App? I see DV content being responsive/adaptive, but I can't see how to control or order that, so perhaps adding more flexibility there and a better look and feel for the app would help.  - Sure but any improvements would be all done with mobile web in mind and not via an app.  I think you are referring to the BI Mobile app, if so keep in mind that app essentially loads the same content in an embedded web view.  Our go forward mobile app focus is around modern mobile experiences.  That is why no updates in that app.
    • How can you create a dashboard in DV using different projects on one screen? I still didn't find that possibility. - Not possible but if the use case is to have charts from various data sources we can do that.  If reuse is the focus then you are correct we do not support this.
    • I also cannot see any standard visual where you can have a comparison between actual values against targets, like in the cards from other Oracle tools. The 3rd party options are scarce and have been not so reliable. They are normally of lower quality visuals when compared with the standards of the tool. - We are working  on an improved performance tile but until then the only options are 3rd party or building your own.  Cannot really comment on the quality of any of these specifically, but noted.

100 % agree with this idea.
Oracle Analytics dev team should concentrate not only on improving/extending Data Visualization part, but also maintain and extend functonality/usablity of "good old" BI Dashboards/Answers (original OBIEE components). There are plenty of implementations (including ours in Czech National Bank), using Dashboards/Answers for serving reporting need of quuite big user community. All points written by Tony Heljula are completelly relevant .

GUI UX has moved on considerably since the last refresh of the OBIEE dashboard interface.

Hi Joel, really?  there have been no new visualisations or other new features to the BI Dashboards for 3 years now and there are no more features planned.

How has the dashboards GUI UX moved on?

I've been using OBIEE since it was nQuire and, although there have been some improvements in functionality, the capabilities of the dashboards and the edit/design have not had a step-change improvement that makes them look as intuitive as other products out there.

agreed and as a workaround please make the generated HTML code easier to tag using clearly identifiable classes, divs, ids etc.
